Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Does TelePsycMD.com offer after hours appointments?

Yes. Weekday evening appointments are offered. These appointments tend to fill up quickly, so early requests for these appointments are recommended.

Are non-medication treatment options available?

Yes. Sometimes the most effective and safest treatment options do not involve medications. TelePsycMD.com offers psychotherapy (talk therapy) treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy, interpersonal therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and more. Feel free to ask about other treatment options by emailing or calling.

Does TelePsycMD.com prescribe controlled substances?

Yes, if it is determined that a client’s care requires the prescribing of a controlled substance (medications regulated by the DEA), it may be offered through TelePsycMD.com. Controlled substances are sometimes necessary to successfully and safely treat certain mental health and addiction conditions. Sometimes controlled substances are not safe for all clients, so it is ultimately the decision of the doctor as to whether a controlled substance is an appropriate treatment option for a client’s care.

Who is eligible to receive services through TelePsycMD.com?

TelePsycMD.com serves Oregon and Washington residents ages 18 and over.

What forms of payment does TelePsycMD.com accept?

Payment is accepted through credit card which is charged automatically at the completion of the appointment. Also, we accept AETNA insurance for clients in Oregon, and we are actively working on expanding our list of accepted insurance companies for clients in both Oregon and Washington.

Is any special equipment needed to receive services through TelePsycMD.com?

A smart phone or personal computer with a reliable high speed data/internet connection is the only equipment needed to receive services through TelePsycMD.com. High speed data is not available in every area, which may limit video services. If the client and doctor agree that phone contact is sufficient to complete the appointment, telephone contact may be an appropriate substitute for video services at times when video services fail or are not available. Each client’s individual circumstances may vary.

TelePsycMD.com provides general outpatient level of care through telepsychiatry services. For mental health emergencies, clients should contact emergency services in their area by phone by dialing 9-8-8 or 9-1-1 or going to the nearest emergency department if they can safely travel.
